Registration Information

Select Registration and Fees

The first step in the tryout process is registering your player.  Before a player can participate in tryouts, he or she must be registered.

For the 2024-2025 season, we have a non refundable tryout fee of $25, due at the time of registration. If a player makes a team, the fee per player is $559.  A payment of $186 (one-third of the total) is due shortly after teams have been formed.  If a player is not assigned to a team, you will not be invoiced for the season.  In addition, if coronavirus restrictions impact our ability to finish the season, the Board may refund a portion of fees (minus a processing fee), depending on much of the season we were able to complete.

The 2024-2025 season tryouts will be held at Riverside High School and Rosemont Middle School on 10/6 & 10/13. Boys will be held at Riverside High School and Rosemont Ridge Middle School on 10/20 & 10/27.

The registration fee covers gym fees, use of necessary uniform for the season (uniform will be collected at end of season, please do not alter the uniform with player name), tournament fees as well as State Tournament fees if qualified, and all other necessary costs to run the organization.  Financial assistance is available for those in need.

At the end of the season all parents are responsible for ensuring the basketball uniforms are returned into their coach, any uniforms not returned will be charged a $50 replacement fee.

Select Tryouts

The Select  tryout process is overseen by the West Linn Youth Basketball Board with assistance from the varsity coaching staff of West Linn High School.  Board members and non-parent coaches are also involved with player evaluation and team selection during the tryout process.  Tryouts are closed to parents.

Tryouts are two days for each grade level and typically take place mid/late-October with team selection posted shortly thereafter.  Teams are structured as one "A" team per grade and generally either one or two "B" teams per grade, depending on the number of players demonstrating the skill level required to play at a competitive level.  Ten players are selected for each team.

What to Expect at Tryouts:

Day 1

Upon arrival, each player/parent will confirm their registration.  If a player is not registered, we will have a live laptop available for registration.  Players will then receive tryout numbers to pin on their shorts during both days of tryouts.  It is important to keep track of these numbers – we will post teams using numbers, not player names.

We will have uniforms for sizing and will ask all players to try on uniforms prior to entering the gym.

Once the players are in the gym and tryouts begin, parents will be asked to leave the gym.  Coaches work with the kids on drills and skill work as well as scrimmages, while multiple neutral observers assess their abilities.  We host a parent meeting in the lobby the first night of tryouts outlining the program and answering any questions parents might have.

Day 2

Please be sure your player has their tryout number pinned to his/her shorts.  Players can head straight to the gym.  The second night of tryouts consists of additional drills, skill work and scrimmages for the players, while neutral observers assess their abilities.

Teams are typically formed within a week following tryouts.

REGISTERING FOR SELECT AND REC

In order to try out for SELECT and still join REC, you must register your child for BOTH programs. After teams have been created for SELECT, and your child has been included, you can be refunded the REC Fees.

If parents are wanting their child to play REC basketball if they don't make SELECT, they need to register for REC by 10/21. If your child makes SELECT, you will be issued a refund for REC.
